Join us for the Havelock Charity Run

Come RUN, Come All!

Once again, 2 Pillars Church will be fielding teams for the annual Havelock Charity Run on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 7:30 a.m.  This will be the 38th annual Havelock Run, which is hosted each year by the Lincoln Track Club and Pinnacle Bank.  The race starts in front of Pinnacle Bank at 6145 Havelock Avenue, and the runners follow routes of either 3K (1.86 miles) or 10K (6.2 miles) through the streets of northeast Lincoln.

Teams can be made up of four to seven runners, and each team can run either the 3K or the 10K.  For every team that finishes, Pinnacle Bank will donate $50 to one of the United Way charities selected by that team, and $75 if the team finishes with a faster time than Pinnacle Bank’s own running team.  

Last year, on a beautiful cloudy, spitty day, 2 Pillars contributed a 3K and a 10K team and had a great time running for City Impact and Heartland Big Brothers Big Sisters.  The festival atmosphere and local volunteer presence was uplifting and provided a fantastic atmosphere to run in (some of us beyond what we thought we were capable of!)  And see how bright, shiny and happy you can be even after running?

This year, we are once again working with 2 Pillars Near South to organize teams, and will also be manning a water station in Mahoney Park (for those of you who opt not to run).  Walkers are also welcome to join the 3K team if you want to participate but would prefer not to run.

Registration is $20 for each runner, $10 for runners ages 13-19. This Includes a t-shirt and a “prize”.  Please comment below or contact Christina Estrada at christina.em.case@gmail.com if you plan on running or would like to volunteer.  You can find race information here, but please wait to register until we’ve sorted teams. (You’ll need to know which team name to register under.)  We’d like to get teams solidified by May 27, so start recruiting your running friends and contact Christina as soon as possible. We’d love to get at least two teams, but we can have more!  

If you’re nervous that you don’t have enough time to get in shape for an early-June run, take heart!  The purpose is mainly to have fun, bless the Havelock community, and get some good aerobic exercise in while doing it.  An easy jog or even a walking pace is just fine.  If you do want to take it more seriously and run competitively, here’s a sample 6-week training plan for a 10K.  You can sure search around and find more online.  Either way, we’d love to have you join us!
